Children's Dentistry
Going to the dentist can be stressful on anyone, especially children. Because of this, it is important to find a dentist that you can trust and that can put your child to ease. At Cinnaminson Smiles, we strive to provide an environment for you and your child that will make your visit as quick and painless as possible.
Proper dental care begins at birth. Even though you can’t see them, a baby has 20 primary teeth that develop in the second trimester of pregnancy. Using a damp washcloth over the gums will help to clean away bacteria, and an infant toothbrush can be used to brush children’s teeth until around the age of 2. At 2, most children can spit while brushing, and a pea-sized amount of toothpaste can be used under parental supervision.
Many dentists recommend that children begin seeing a dentist at age 3. It is important to visit a dentist, as not only will they help put you and your child’s minds at ease, but they are also trained to handle a variety of issues associated with children’s dental health, and can recommend the proper specialists if necessary. They can assess your child’s oral health and help to prevent any problems before they start, and also help teach them proper maintenance with routine checkups. Often, children are seen semi-annually for checkups, at which point Dr. Botis will perform a routine exam to ensure your child is developing properly and has no cavities, as well as give a fluoride treatment to help prevent any future cavities. Sometimes, sealant is also recommended for the biting surface of molars.
